Eine Kleine Nachtwanderung

After crashing at the hotel for a while it was time for a walk and dinner. Unfortunately jet lag slowed us down a bit so the places we would have liked to try had already closed their kitchens. However this being Vienna there still were plenty to choose from so we settled in at a tourist/nightlife type place for a beer and bite and it turned out not to be bad at all. A warm night with a cool beer…

A beer with Mama

A beer for Dad too..

Walking near St. Stephen's Cathedral

An interesting store front.

Syd kicking back for a minute.

kdelora:  Hard to get out fighting jet lag but we did.  Even at 10:00PM Vienna time there were tons of people walking the streets.  Since it is Sunday, everything is closed, especially at this time.  Strolled to Stephansplatz in search for dinner…a little too late though.  Back to a somewhat touristy place, but full of people.  Bier and schnitzel (and chicken strips for Syd) hit the spot.  A walk back and we are all ready for bed (and blogging).  I like Vienna, smaller but accessible, hearing the voices rising at the St Stephan’s was incredible as a choir group was testing their voices.  Looking forward to tomorrow.

Surreal

It is very funny how quickly one can move about. The flight from SFO to Frankfurt went by faster than usual at least for me. Love Lufthansa, the schedule says we leave at 2:15pm, first plane motion from SFO gate was at 2:15pm exactly. Nice. Layover for a few hours and we find ourselves in Vienna on a Sunday afternoon. Just like that. Very surreal was Kims comment.

Sydney was at first disappointed in Vienna, too many big buildings. She was thinking ahead to the later stops where it will be more rural. As for myself I am surprised that for a city of such importance, Vienna looks and feels ‘smaller’ than I expected. I think I was expecting something like Rome or Paris, feels more like Milan. Smaller. Kinda like it, lets see if it lasts…

Syd’s first souvenir: Asterix comics. OK not technically an Austrian product but we have to start her on these things somewhere.

The Princess. Poor girl has this to herself....

kdelora: Happy to be on the ground.  Flight was packed with very tight seating.  Syd does not like to sleep since she is sooooo excited.  She had a hard close on the Frankfurt to Vienna trip.  Love walking through the Frankfurt and Vienna airports.  Modern, lots of color and rectangles, aside from the bier pub in the Vienna airport complete with wood accents all is streamlined.  Customs was a breeze in Frankfurt.  No long line like coming back to the US.  Short and sweet…except for having to go through “security” again to board the Vienna flight.  Vienna was just moving through the “do not declare”.  Syd is being a trooper…crazy tired in Frankfurt.  The picture above is before she wiped out with the rest of us finally giving in to jet lag.
